The Annual exhibition of work by the members of the Surrey Sculpture Society at the Savill Garden from 6 September until 31 October is well presented or curated in modern speak and a photographer's dream.
To quote the Society, "The Savill Garden is a wonderful arrangement of gardens and woods which lends itself to being the perfect backdrop for our work. Sculptures will be placed intricately amongst the various interconnected gardens, allowing the viewers to imagine how the sculpture would look in their own gardens, whilst also having large open spaces for bigger pieces." and they aren't wrong! It's delightful and very photogenic.
Enter my Zeiss Ikon ZM 35mm rangefinder camera with a Voigtländer Nokton classic 35mm f1.4 MC II VM lens (what a mouthful) attached and one 36 exposure roll of Kodak Ektar 100 film, on a sunny mid-September day.
To paraphrase Will McBride, "The film ran through my Zeiss Ikon like wine down my throat". One iconic manual rangefinder camera, one classic prime lens and one finest quality slow film providing a goodly set of pictures, but above all else such fun. Photography experienced the way it was meant to be.
